Bike Brake Fluid

Brake fluid is an essential for all road and mountain bikes equipped with hydraulic disc brakes. To keep them working properly, hydraulic disc brakes will need bleeding from time to time, you will need hydraulic brake fluid for this. You will also need a bleed kit for your bikes’ brakes and these are sometimes sold with hydraulic brake fluid included.

Hydraulic brake fluid is available in two types and they are not compatible with each other so it essential that you choose the right one for your brakes. Mineral oil is what you need for Shimano and Magura hydraulic disc brakes while SRAM and Avid hydraulic disc brakes use Dot 4 or Dot 5.1 fluid. Make sure you find out which type of brake fluid you need for your brakes before you buy.
