Orbea Gain Review
Gain Enough Power
The new Road E-bike with Enough Power to maximise the fun riding experience for every cyclist.
A New Geometry
The new Orbea Gain features a geometry which is designed for road cyclists who seek maximum control and efficiency but with a few tweaks. The Gain incorporates a 350Wh battery instead of the 250Wh on the previous model. This offers the ability to ride further with additional assistance. This is neatly tucked inside the downtube of the frame, keeping the clean road bike look cyclists are used to.
ICR PLUS
ICR Plus is Orbea’s Internal Cable Routing system which is carefully guided under the stem and through the head tube ensuring there is no rub or rattle. ICR is also optimized for both traditional and electronic shifting systems. The entire Orbea road line offers this clean solution with OC Integrated stems and cable covers.
Integrated Display
The Mahle display is located on the top tube of the frame for easy access. This display shows the necessary data for every ride including assistance mode, status of built-in security lights and battery status. In addition, the display also has the capability to pair with your usual cycling computer or device via ANT+ and Bluetooth. If you still want to check more data during the ride, such as battery percentage or the power reading, it is possible to upgrade to the specific Mahle cycle computer which will also be compatible with the built-in front/rear lights.
Mahle X20 Drive System
Orbea have collaborated with Mahle to offer maximum assistance for cyclists. With the Mahle X20 Motor, the Gain is tuned to work best between 75 & 95rpm (revolutions per minute) which is the usual natural cadence range on regular road bikes with no pedal assist. The power delivery of the brand's custom firmware is very elastic in all scenarios. This means that if you put more power into the pedals or increase your cadence, the bike will respond smoothly providing more assistance.
Updated Bottom Bracket
A key feature on the new Gain, is the brand new bottom bracket with the integrated Mahle's X20 system, which includes both a torque and cadence sensor. The Gain also includes an integrated charge port, allowing riders to easily recharge the battery without having to remove this from the bike. As if that were not enough, the X20 motor generates less noise than previous versions. The consequence of this, is that you barely notice when the motor is kicking in which makes for more of a natural riding experience.
Integrated Lighting
An additional feature added to the new model is the integrated front and rear lights which are powered and connected via the Mahle firmware. On the Orbea OC integrated handlebar mount there is a built-in front light and a rear light built-in to the seat post clamp, which enables cyclists to be seen in low light conditions.
A Natural Ride Feel
The Gain rides just like a normal bike. With the new geometry, the ride is responsive and agile. And the assistance is smooth without being intrusive or jerky, ensuring the rider is in full control. Even when restarting at traffic lights and junctions, the Gain feels natural but with enough power to move off with ease. When the road starts to pitch upwards and the engine kicks in you will feel a smooth and gentle push, along with the effort you are putting in.
Customise Your Gain
Like most Orbea models, the new Gain is fully customisable through Orbea’s own customisation system, MyO. Through MyO, riders can choose from their favourite colours, groupsets, wheelsets, frame and component sizes, and even add their name on the frame!
Electric road bikes are the best way to get everyone out on the road, no matter your fitness levels. Especially when the bike looks as nice as the new Orbea Gain does!
