Bike Brake & Gear Cables

Bike brake and gear cables are an essential component for nearly all bikes. Brake cables and gear cables are different sizes and come in two parts. The outer brake housing or gear cable housing allows the inner cable to do the job of changing gear or braking. The inner cable moves inside the outer housing smoothly and easily for slick gear shifting and confident braking. If your cables are looking at all frayed or damaged, or if there's any stiction in your shifting or braking, it's time for a cable change.

Brake cables are thicker than gear cables and use different end fittings so it is important that you choose the correct type when you replace your gear or brake cables. Mountain, road and hybrid bikes all use the same types of cables though you may need different lengths for different bikes.
