Bike Gear Cables

Gear cables are the most common way of changing gear on your bike although wires are taking over with some electronic groupsets. Shimano gear cables are available for both road and mountain bikes as are gear cables from many other manufacturers. A gear cable for your bike consists of the inner cable or wire with an outer cable housing. Gear cables stretch through use and will need replacing from time to time. Outer cables tend to get dirty over time, so will also need replacing if your gear shifting is a little sticky.

Bike gear cables are available for Shimano, SRAM and Campagnolo gear systems. Stainless steel inner cables are the best choice for British cycling conditions and cables with slick coated inners offer smoother shifting. Shimano Di2 wires and cable sets are what you need to wire up your Shimano electronic drivetrain.
